This Lip Balm Formula combines beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and castor oil to create a smooth, conditioning balm with good glide and staying power. Vitamin E provides antioxidant support for the oils, while a lip-safe flavor oil can be added for a customized finish.

Method
- Combine the beeswax, coconut oil, castor oil, and cocoa butter in a heat-safe container.
- Heat gently until the beeswax and cocoa butter are completely melted, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly while keeping it fully liquid.
- Add the Vitamin E and lip-safe flavor oil and mix thoroughly until completely incorporated.
- Pour immediately into lip balm tubes or suitable lip balm containers while the mixture is still fluid.
- Allow the lip balm to cool and solidify completely before capping and labeling.
Lip Balm Formulation Notes
Use only flavor oils specifically approved for use in lip products and follow the supplier’s recommended usage rate. Do not assume every flavor oil can be used at 2.5%. If using less than 2.5%, increase the castor oil by the difference to maintain a 100% formula.
Vitamin E: Vitamin E is used as an antioxidant to help slow oxidation of the oils. It is not a preservative.
Beeswax provides structure and staying power, while castor oil contributes gloss and glide. Cocoa butter and coconut oil provide richness and help create the balm’s final consistency.
Different types of beeswax, cocoa butter, and coconut oil can produce slightly different firmness and melting characteristics. Make a small test batch before scaling.
This formula can be used in traditional twist-up lip balm tubes or suitable lip balm pots. Packaging choice may affect the firmness you prefer.
Color may be added as desired. Use only colorants appropriate for the intended cosmetic application.
